Here at Black Edge Style we take our responsibility for the environment seriously.  We believe if we all take small steps towards a cleaner and greener future, we can make an impact

We have researched many ways in which we can be a more sustainable business. As a clothing business there are many issues around fast fashion and the environmental impact of the wider industry. From the offset we want to be transparent and clear on what we are doing to help reduce the impact we have on the environment

Packaging

Our packaging is supplied from the UK, and wherever possible, we have sourced products that are environmentally friendly.  Our supplier will plant a tree tor every order placed, regardless of the value.  Below are some of the items we use and their environmental impact:

  1. Branded Mailing Bag – Recyclable & Reusable
  2. Non branded bags 1- Recyclable & Reusable
  3. Non branded garment bags 2, white – Enviro Friendly Sugar Cane Mailing Bags – Produced from a by-product of sugar cane, and grown on reclaimed wasteland and therefore having no impact on the rainforest, the bags are fully recyclable, use no fossil fuels and are produced from the greenest material on the market.  Using sugar cane rather than oil in the process of photosynthesis makes it ‘GREEN’ by its very nature and due to it being 100% recyclable material it can be fed back into the recycling stream
  4. Mailing Boxes – ECO – Made from 75% recycled board, recyclable, reusable, fully compostable & biodegradable
  5. Black Tissue Paper – Recyclable, Reusable & Fully Degradable
  6. Gummed Paper Tape – ECO – Made from renewable natural resources & 100% recyclable
  7. Kraft Paper Roll – ECO – Made from recycled paper fibres, recyclable, biodegradable, reusable
  8. Clear Labels – The thinner polypropylene film means a reduction in the material being used. This offers benefits across key sustainability elements including the environment
  9. Cotton Yarn – Reusable

Suppliers

When choosing our suppliers, their environmental & ethical responsibilities are a key factor in our decision-making process. Below is a brief overview of some of our suppliers’ environmental commitments.  This list is not exhaustive and may not cover all the brands we use                  

  1. Supply chain transparency
  2. BCI Cotton – The Better Cotton Initiative is a non-profit organisation that works to provide training with farmers on how to use water efficiently, care for the health of the soil and natural habitats, reduce use of the most harmful chemicals and respect the rights and wellbeing of workers’
  3. Recycled Polyester – Recycled polyester is a material that has been recycled from used materials. The most common source of raw materials for recycled polyester is old PET bottles and raw material waste from manufacturing industry, it is recyclable
  4. Eco Vero is a fibre made from wood pulp, from sustainable forestry plantations, that are independently certified by industry-leading associations.  50% less emissions than generic viscose, 50% less energy and water than generic viscose
  5. Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) is a global standard for animal welfare and agricultural practices in sheep farming
  6. Members of the Amfori BSCI, Business Social Compliance Initiative
  7. Traceability – Aiming towards a more transparent supply chain
